Basic Card Folds

Image
I've been asked by a few people now to create a post about basic Card Folds.  Sometimes it's also useful to revisit the basics, even if they're not new to us, in order to get a fresh perspective or learn a new way of doing one of your 'go to' folds. So I'd like to take a look at standard sizes (in the UK, for now) tent fold, fold back, z fold, easel, gatefold and wallet fold. All of these can be adapted and added to other types of folds and will form the basic principles of many more complex cards. To begin with, most pre scored card blanks come in 6x4", 5x7" or 8x10" (standard sizes for photo prints).  Often times card blank packs will also include 6x6" and 8x8"card blanks and these work very nicely with the increasingly popular 6x6" and 8x8" patterned paper pads.   Also common are A5 (half of A4) and A6 cards (half of A5).   The below photo shows 3 of these common sizes: 6x4, 5x7 and 6x6, all stood in a portrait orientation. ...

pop up gift bag card

Pop up gift box wallet fold card Hello!  So, I have 5 neices and one of them turns 12 in a couple of weeks.  She's at that age where she likes more grown up things and a unicorns and rainbows theme wasn't going to cut it this year.  So I thought I'd combine her card with her gift (a beautiful sea turtle bracelet which includes a QR code to track your adopted sea turtle across the ocean!) The Journey Bracelet by Fahlo is an  incredible gift that's helping the planet with every purchase and it's a brilliant way to encourage young minds to think about the future of their world. Fahlo works directly with the Turtle Conservatory to provide you with tracking details for your very own turtle so you can watch their every move around thr world!  I can't wait to see her face when she opens this grown up card and finds an even more grown up gift inside!  To make the card, I used a wallet fold card design, an origami...

Secret message card  Good morning all! So today is a super exciting one, it's Friday the 19th November 2021 and I'm about to go live on Crafter's Companion TV to demo a unique and fun fancy fold card for you all! So I thought I'd also post the details and instructions right here for you all to follow and craft along with, either during the show or afterwards.  The show is live on YouTube but will also be available afterwards, forever! So you can sit down and craft along with me anytime that suits you. Here's a link to the Live Feed https://youtu.be/0Qe57oFbGKY The show starts at midday and is actually on 7 days a week at the same UK time.  So now for the card.  Its actually a pretty basic Card fold with minimal cutting and scoring and all from less than one piece of 12 x 12.   Cut a 12x12 piece of textured cardstock in half to give you two pieces at 6"x12". Take one piece and score along the short edge at 3", 6" and 9".  Now tur...

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to Get Crafty, by Craftsbystone, my journey into fancy folding, fussy cutting, stamp and die and origami.  I've been crafting with paper since I was a kid, my dad gave me my first origami book at 7 years old and I've loved papercraft ever since.  I was also a Blue Peter child, made Tracey Island and recycled pretty much every loo roll, washing up bottle, milk carton and cereal box in the house.  I learned early on you can literally make anything with a bit of sticky tape and some cardboard, which was handy as we didn't have a lot of money growing up so making toys and shopping in charity shops was the norm and I still do the latter now.  My mum and I love a good charity shopping spree, but that's a blog for another time. So, on to papercrafting and, in particular, cardmaking.   I've been a passionate fan and advocate of Crafter's Companion for a little over a year now ( www.crafterscompanion.co.uk )  I found them in August last year...
